Good morning, good afternoon, and good evening! Whenever you are reading this, you may be, currently, thinking like I am about what to do this weekend. My wife travels a lot for work, and so the weekends, normally, are special times to be together and enjoy some of the simple things we both appreciate. Whether that is getting outside and enjoying a beautiful day at an event, taking a little road trip for a new experience, or finding an unknown little shop or restaurant that is a ‘hidden’ gem. It takes effort and intentionality, but there are many, many options that can make this coming weekend memorable. You may say, “that is my usual time to clean the house, do laundry, wash the car, etc.” and that is just fine in itself. But, if you’re able, maybe plan ahead a little. Take a few extra minutes to knock some of the mundane things out, and take a breath this weekend to do something fun with the friends, family, or family pet. You work hard. You’re on the go so much. Life is too BUSY, and too SHORT to not take in our Charlotte metro area and all that it has to offer. So without further ado, here are a Few Things to Do This Weekend.
Feb. 17-19 – 3pm, 1pm, 3pm
49ers Baseball
America’s pastime returns to the Queen city, and one of the area’s college ball clubs will be kicking (or hitting and pitching) their season off on Friday afternoon. If sports is your thing, or you just want to get out and enjoy the VERY agreeable weather, then the Charlotte 49ers baseball team would love for you to go out and support them, as they play West Virginia this weekend.
Feb. 17 – 8pm
Comedy & Cuisine
Do you love to laugh? Do you love to eat? What if you could do BOTH in the same evening and leave feeling refreshed, rejuvenated and more ALIVE than when you arrived? “Comedy & Cuisine” promises to bring families back to the table by helping them “Laugh 2 live & Eat 2 live longer”. So, If you have a passion for food, art’s culture, fashion and entertainment then this special evening has YOU written all over it. After all, what’s better than lavishing yourself and friends with a lot of humor and delicious hor’dourves?
Feb. 17 – 7pm
Cigars & Sips
If your neighbor is anything like mine, then you know how this event would get them (and yourself) all excited. He can’t get ENOUGH of a good cigar. He has one when he cuts his grass. He has one when he’s washing the family vehicles. He has one when he’s watching the pouring rain. They know his name at the local wine and cigar store. Well, if don’t mind taking a little day trip, get ready for a great time! Westbend Winery and Brewery will welcome guests to their “Cigars and Sips” event. It’s a laid back evening of warm smokes and a great beverages and could be just what you need after a stressful week.
Feb. 17-18 – 7pm – 9pm
Night at the Museum
What about for the kids? You spend a lot of time planning their lunches, taking them to practice, and helping out with homework. Do you have to now plan their sleepover? Good news, it’s already been planned for you and this could be the best sleepover they ever have! Spend the night at The Schiele Museum and enjoy a show in the new Science Theater. Make crafts, participate in hands-on activities, and share in an experience that they’ll remember for a long time. Registration includes an evening snack and breakfast on Saturday morning.
Feb. 17 & 18
Brunch and Brush
Sometimes when you consider how you want to spend your weekend, you don’t want to be limited. You want options in your activity. You want fun, creativity, liveliness, spontaneity and most importantly the opportunity to relax. City Art Room will be the place to be on Saturday for the true artist in you to evolve. Paint on a canvas with brushes. Color in adult coloring books. Finger paint, and customize leather bracelets. This is a freestyle session where you are encouraged to design items according to your preference or chosen reference. No experience is necessary. Bring mimosas, wine, beer, malt beverages, soft drinks, and food and fill your day with an overwhelming sense of pleasure and accomplishment.
Feb. 19 – 2pm – 5pm
Road to Hire Career Summit
Are you the OVERACHIEVER (or just innately, aggressively committed)? The days ahead could be the life change that you’ve been looking for and you want to use the weekend to network and begin a new career. The Stratford Richardson YMCA will host their “Road to Hire” career summit on Sunday where you’ll have the opportunity to walk through your resume and experience and schedule an interview with their leadership team. Paid professional training, development and job placement for motivated 18-25 year olds is the mission of the summit and it very well could be the next step that you (or someone you know) needs.
If it’s creative you’re desiring it’s available and there for your delight. If you want to indulge in the sweet and savory tastes of life then find yourself venturing out into the vast foodie culture we’re blessed with. Cheering for the local team, making special memories, influencing young minds, and finding your sides hurting from humor, this weekend in the middle of February will provide plenty of stimulation and style.
